Eczema

The word eczema is used to describe a group of inflammatory conditions that cause the skin to become itchy, inflamed, or have a rash-like appearance.  Over 30 million Americans have some form of Eczema. Several types of eczema, include:

  1. Atopic dermatitis - a genetic skin condition that starts in childhood.

  2. Contact dermatitis - which happens in response to something irritating or causing an allergy on the skin

  3. Dyshidrotic eczema - most commonly occurring on the hands and feet due to over- drying of this skin

  4. Seborrheic dermatitis - usually on the scalp or face in response to some stress on the body

  5. Stasis dermatitis - which occurs on the legs of older individuals with circulatory issues. 

While there is no cure for eczema, there are definitely ways to treat it and to minimize flares. If you are experiencing an active flare it is important to come in for the right treatment to get things under control. During your visit we will also create a good skin care routine to keep your eczema under control and minimize flares.
