Skin Cancer / Mole Check
Skin cancer occurs when there is abnormal, uncontrolled growth of skin cells. The most common skin cancers are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, which most commonly occur in sun exposed areas. A less common, but more dangerous form of skin cancer is melanoma. Melanoma has the ability to spread to other organs more rapidly if it is not treated at an early stage. Risk factors for developing skin cancer include fair skin, family history of melanoma, being over 40 years old, and regular sun exposure. In fact your risk of developing melanoma doubles when you have had five or more sunburns. Skin cancers vary in shape, color, size and texture, so any new, changing or otherwise suspicious growths should be examined immediately. Dr. Desai provides routine skin cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment for both precancerous and cancerous growths, early intervention is essential to preventing the cancer from spreading.
